Oil and gas, the foundation of our nation’s modern economic growth, were discovered in the early 1960’s, but it was the ascension of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said in 1970 that marked the beginning of a new era of economic and social prosperity. Today, large-scale regional and international investment projects, such as the development of Duqm Special Economic Zone and Sohar Industrial Port, play a formidable role in Oman’s growth.Looking back on the nation’s rich history, the Sultanate has always benefited from exceptional trading relations within the region, across the Indian Ocean and Southern Africa.
